INZHENERNO-FIZICHESKII ZHURNAL IS 50
In January 2008, we marked the 50th anniversary of the first issue of "Inzhenerno-Fizicheskii Zhurnal" (IFZh). The journal was founded by the outstanding thermal physicist Academician A. V. Luikov who headed it till the end of his life. For half a century IFZh has retained its thematic orientation by publishing original papers and reviews on a broad range of problems of heat and mass transfer: heat conduction, thermodynamics, thermodynamics of irreversible processes, theory of drying, and transfer processes in phase transformations, in dispersive and porous media, in low-temperature plasmas, in rheological media, and in turbulent flows. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of publications in new areas: synthesis of nanomaterials, power engineering, ecology, filtration combustion, and transfer processes in nonequilibrium chemically reacting media, in fuel cells, etc. As has been pointed out in the editorial of IFZh's first issue, the journal "sets itself the goal of contributing to the maximum introduction of the results of scientific physical investigations into engineering practice." The editors and editorial board of IFZh include well-known scientists from different countries. Many scientists-thermal physicists from Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine participate in reviewing the manuscripts of the papers submitted to IFZh. We extend our sincere jubilee greetings to all of them and express our profound gratitude for their great help in raising the scientific level of the journal. The editors express their appreciation to Springer Science+Business Media, since it is due to their efforts that the journal is also published in English and distributed in various countries of the world. During the period of its existence "Inzhenerno-Fizicheskii Zhurnal" has been headed by well-known scientists-thermal physicists: A. V. Luikov (1958-1974) - Academician, first director of the Heat and Mass Transfer Institute, S. S. Zabrodskii (1974-1975) - Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences, well-known scientist in the field of heat and mass transfer in dispersive media, A. G. Shashkov (1976-1989) - Academician, well-known scientist in the field of thermophysical characteristics of gases, liquids, and solids, O. G. Martynenko (1989-2003) - Academician, well-known scientist in the field of free convective heat transfer and power engineering, V. I. Timoshpolskii (2003-2005) - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, well-known scientist in the field of thermal physics of metallurgical processes, S. A. Zhdanok (since April 2005) - Academician, well-known scientist in the field of physics and chemistry of combustion and nonequilibrium processes of transfer. Editors
