A DEVICE FOR UNIAXIAL ORIENTATION OF GELATINOUS MEDIA AND FOR MEASURING THE ANISOTROPY OF THEIR PHYSICAl PROPERTIES A. S. Prishchepov and S. G. Prokopenko UDC 235.33:235.34 The design characteristics of the device suggested here provide the possibility of accomplishing uniaxial orientation of gels with retention of the constancy of their volume, thus making it possible to carry out highly accurate measurements of their anisotropic physical parameters in directions parallel and perpendicular to the axis of orientation of the gel. Using as examples polyacrylamide gels that contain biologically important molecules and membranes, we demonstrate the possibility of measuring the anisotropy of their luminous absorption and refraction.
