TO THE READERS OF THE JOURNAL OF ENGINEERING 
PHYSICS AND THERMOPHYSICS

This issue consists of reports devoted to theoretical and 
experimental studies as well as  scientific and practical 
developments  in  the  field  of  low-temperature  plasma 
generation  and  its  applications  (electric-arc  plasma  
generators,   plasma   reactors  and  furnaces,   various 
technological  applications)  which were submitted to the 
international    workshop    "Electric-Arc    Plasma   in 
Technological  Processes."  The  international  workshop,  
held  from  the 2nd to the 6th of October, 1995, in Minsk 
(Belarus),  was  organized  by the Heat and Mass Transfer 
Institute  of  the Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the 
International Center for Heat and Mass  Transfer Problems 
and sponsored by the Fund for Fundamental Research of the 
Republic of Belarus. More than 50 scientists from Belarus 
and  such  foreign  countries  and former SU republics as 
Russia, Ukraine,  Estonia, Germany, Norway, Slovakia, and 
Bulgaria   took   part   in   this  workshop.  Thirty-two 
scientific reports were  presented  and  a  "round-table" 
meeting  was  held.  The  participants  of  the  workshop 
exchanged their  opinions  concerning plasma applications 
in  technological  processes  and  discussed   lines   of 
possible collaboration.
